Exercise and Oxygen | Littleton, CO

How does exercise affect oxygen levels? | Littleton, CO

Regularly exercising can help your body absorb higher oxygen levels, building lean muscles, and reducing fat, helping you keep your body and mind in top condition. A chiropractor can help make tailored and advanced exercise programs that can facilitate optimum fitness in minimal time, helping you build performance while increasing your body’s ability to fight stress and diseases.

When you exercise, your heart and lungs come into action together. The lungs are responsible for bringing oxygen into the body that is needed to produce energy. They remove carbon dioxide, which is the waste product, during energy production. On the other hand, the heart pumps oxygen into the muscles that are doing the exercise. Exercise increases levels of serotonin in your brain’s synapses – increasing happiness and reducing anxiety – as well as boosting dopamine levels to improve mood. Your blood pressure will be lowered due to less stress on your cardiovascular system from pushing yourself physically harder than usual, thus lowering risk for strokes or aneurysms later on down the line.

During the workout, your muscles pull harder, and your body uses more oxygen and produces more carbon dioxide leading to your increased breathing from about 15 times a minute when you are resting and up to 40-60 times a minute when during exercise. At the same time, your circulation speeds up in order to bring the oxygen faster to the muscles to keep them moving. If you have healthy lungs, you have a large breathing reserve. Although you feel “out of breath” after your exercise, you will not be “short of breath.” If your lung function is reduced, you may need a large part of your breathing reserve. It can make you feel “out of breath,” although it’s unpleasant but not really dangerous.

Any physical activity is counted as exercise. It could be sports, such as running, swimming, bowls or tennis, an exercise program, or hobbies like cycling and walking. House chores that are part of your daily activities, such as gardening, cleaning, walking to shops or groceries, are also included as physical activities. To stay healthy and keep a healthy heart and lungs, you should do 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days per week.

It is recommended that you should exercise regularly, where you increase your heart rate appreciably for at least 30 minutes a week. However, studies have shown that any movement which results in time away from the couch or the office desk counts towards low-level exercise. This has led to the popularity of standing desks, and standing meetings. These kinds of activities force the individual to get off the chair and walk around. It is not only the high-impact activities which count, even regular movement also counts.
